Calligraphic Style
Here the calligraphic style and designs are very different from
scribble art. The media: bamboo brush; black ink; and rice paper.
Truthfully, many of Jim's calligraphic designs are unworthy. But there are a few good ones to be found.
When Jim started using the calligraphic style, the individual strokes looked as if they came from a drafting table. This was
rectified, His honored Calligraphy Teacher told him the
horizontal stroke (heng) should not appear horizontal or
straight. Instead, Jim was advised by his Teacher to visualize
the supporting beam on the facade of a thousand-year-old
temple. It was later, when Jim internalized this advice
that each individual stroke began to look natural and aesthet-ically pleasing.
